Ms. Bates
Dr. Eugene Sires Elementary School

Welcome to Sires

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! Sires Elementary School is celebrating 10 years of excellence, and our theme this year is “A Decade in the Deep: Gliding Through Excellence Since 2016!”  I am excited for our school to foster collaborative relationships with our school’s stakeholders to create a positive school culture to celebrate our Sires Stingrays’ success as well as meet the challenges of our diverse student population.

Our Vision: Sires prepares lifelong learners for a sea of possibilities to impact the world through collaboration, confidence, and creativity.

Our Mission: At Sires, we GLIDE: Grow, Love, Inspire, Discover, Excel.

One of our focuses this year will be on student progress, also known as student growth.  Student progress on the SC School Report Card is measured by how well the students grow in their academic achievement in math and ELA. The baseline is established on the third-grade math and ELA SC READY state test. Student progress is measured based on how well students grow each year in their academic achievement beginning in fourth grade. Our school needs to improve in both math and ELA growth as students progress through fourth and fifth grades. Our goal this year is to provide fourth and fifth grade teachers  with professional development time with our district content specialists to dive deeper into data for individual students in order to monitor student growth to improve in our school’s overall student progress.

Another area of focus this year is our students’ perception of our school climate. We will be providing opportunities for students to provide feedback to our school leadership team. Our plan is to establish a Student Council, a Principal Panel, and to engage students in lessons on school environment and school safety to help them understand the components of a positive school climate.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Bates
